Rep. Issa Urges Libyan Leader to Abandon His Country's Weapons of Mass Destruction Programs

Tunis, Tunisia - Congressman Darrell Issa, traveling with a group of legislators led by Rep. Curt Weldon, today met with Libyan Leader Colonel Muammar Qadafi and urged the Libyan leader to maintain his promise to abandon its weapons of mass destruction programs. Congressman Issa, today, made the following statements after his meeting with Colonel Qadafi:

"The progress made by President Bush's continued resolve to deprive rogue regimes of the most lethal weapons of mass destruction was evident in discussions with Libyan leader Muammar Qadafi.

"Colonel Qadafi reiterated his promise to our Congressional delegation that Libya will disarm, abandon all weapons of mass destruction programs, and cooperate with international inspectors.

"The Libyan government has a long history of supporting terrorism and violating the human rights of its people. America must continue to lead international efforts to ensure that disarmament occurs, as promised, and must press Libya to abandon all policies that violate the rights of its own people and those of other nations."
