Rogers Announces Major Disaster Declaration for the Commonwealth of Kentucky

U.S. Rep. Harold "Hal" Rogers (KY-05) announced today that President Obama declared a major disaster declaration for Bath, Breathitt, Clay, Floyd, Jackson, Johnson, Lawrence, Lee, Magoffin, Martin, Menifee, Morgan, Owsley, Perry and Rowan Counties. Federal aid will supplement the Commonwealth and local recovery efforts led by the brave men and women of the Kentucky National Guard, local first responders and National Guardsmen deployed from other states.

"I applaud President Obama for issuing a Major Disaster Declaration and I thank the President for looking out for the people of the Commonwealth. The people of Kentucky are recovering from an unprecedented ice storm leaving hundreds of thousands still without power. Having personally met with Secretary Napolitano this week and from other reports I've received, local, state and federal authorities are working diligently to restore power in the areas hardest hit and ensure that those without power have access to things like shelter, water and food," said Rogers. "The National Guard, from Kentucky as well as nearby states, is once again mobilized and stepping in, going door-to-door to provide emergency services throughout the Commonwealth and check on residents. As you can expect, the entire delegation is focused on making sure Kentucky gets the support it needs from the federal government to effectively manage this emergency."
