Baldwin Votes for Economic Recovery Plan

Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin supported, and the House today passed, the American Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The legislation invests $819 billion to bolster our current economy and assure its long-term growth and stability. In addition, the plan contains unprecedented, built-in accountability measures—providing strong oversight, an historic degree of public transparency, and including no earmarks.

"Wisconsin families are facing daunting economic challenges. The impact of this recession on businesses large and small is painful and dramatic. People are struggling to find jobs, pay for health care, heat their homes or even keep their homes," said Congresswoman Baldwin. "The legislation we passed today will help create jobs quickly by re-investing in our crumbling roads, bridges, and schools and further developing renewable energy technologies. At the same time, it will give people who've lost their jobs access to health care and extend unemployment benefits; and provide assistance to those struggling to heat their homes. In Wisconsin alone, this bill will create or save more than 67,000 jobs, and provide more than $1 billion in health care for the uninsured," Baldwin explained.
