Durbin Statement on the Confirmation of Timothy Geithner as Treasury Secretary

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) released the following statement today, after the Senate confirmed Timothy Geithner as Secretary of the Treasury:

"I supported the nomination of Timothy Geithner and look forward to working closely with him as we tackle the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression."

"Mr. Geithner has experienced first-hand the major economic crises of the last twenty years, serving in the Treasury Department, at the International Monetary Fund, and finally as the head of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. That experience will be vital in helping President Obama to address the current crisis."

"We have no time to lose. We must pass an economic recovery bill and confirm the President's economic team as quickly as possible, so that we can help struggling families and help our overall economy return to prosperity."
