Rogers Announces Housing Grants for Low-Income Individuals

U.S. Rep. Harold "Hal" Rogers (KY-05) announced today that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is awarding $46,602 for the Cumberland Valley Regional Housing Authority to develop a comprehensive program to help low-income individuals gain economic self sufficiency.

"This funding helps a wide range of people who live in public housing," said Rogers. "It gives families the resources they need to get the education or training necessary to find jobs. It also helps the participants in this program start an escrow account so that upon completion, they can afford to make a down payment on a house, continue their education or even purchase a vehicle so that they can live on their own."

The funding is provided through HUD's Housing Choice Voucher Family Self-Sufficiency (HCV/FSS) Program. HCV/FSS grants are awarded to public housing agencies to work with welfare agencies, schools, businesses, and other local partners to develop a program to help participating individuals develop the skills and experience to enable them to obtain jobs that pay a living wage.

As a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, Rogers works to secure funding for important initiatives in the fifth Congressional district.
