Sen. Cornyn Statement on Proposed Auto Bailout

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, today issued the following statement regarding a proposed bailout pending in Congress for the nation's top three automakers, General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler:

"The nation's top automakers this week presented their proposals to the Democratic Congressional leadership on how they plan to turn around their businesses and get out of debt. I have yet to see the details of their proposals so I cannot comment on the merits. I intend to review their proposals closely, keeping in mind the critical need to protect and strengthen Texas jobs while at the same time ensuring accountability of taxpayer dollars. I also want to ensure that under any proposal, domestic auto dealerships in Texas are protected and are treated fairly by those in Detroit."
