BATTLE CREEK ENQUIRER: "Walberg talks energy, health care with chamber"

Congressman Walberg's recent stop in Battle Creek was discussed in today's Battle Creek Enquirer. Following is an except:

U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg made a stop in Battle Creek on Monday to talk with Battle Creek Area Chamber of Commerce staff and board members and to also pitch his ideas on reducing taxes, increasing energy options and independence and cutting health care costs.

Walberg said he's been working on his legislation, the "No More Excuses Energy Act," but it's been stalled in committee by House leadership. He's collected 153 of the 218 signatures he needs on a discharge petition to force a vote on the bill, which advocates using more U.S. resources to decrease dependence on foreign oil and make the United States more energy independent.

According to Walberg, the legislation encourages new refinery construction and building new nuclear power plants, and offers tax credits to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and increase wind-powered production. The bill also would allow drilling for oil in the 19.6-million-acre Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) and the Outer Continental Shelf.
