Van Hollen Letter on Russian Military Action in Georgia
Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) today sent the following letter to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice regarding Russian military action in Georgia:
August 11, 2008
The Honorable Condoleezza Rice
Secretary of State
U.S. Department of State
2201 C Street NW
Washington, DC 20520
Dear Secretary Rice:
I write to express my deep concern about the escalating conflict in South Ossetia.
I agree that the Russian military response to this crisis has been completely disproportionate, and I strongly support the Administration's call for a mutual cease-fire to be monitored by international peacekeepers so that a diplomatic resolution to the conflict can be reached.
I appreciate your efforts towards achieving an immediate cessation of hostilities in Georgia and urge that ending this crisis be given the highest priority.
