Hoyer on Blunt's Resignation as House Republican Whip
House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) today released the following statement on Rep. Roy Blunt's decision not to seek reelection as House Republican Whip:
"I am sorry to learn that Congressman Roy Blunt will not be seeking reelection as House Republican Whip. For years, Roy has been a good friend of mine. In an increasingly partisan Washington, he is one of those legislators who enjoy genuine friendships on the other side of the aisleand I know I'm not the only Democrat sorry to see him leave his party's leadership. Although we often disagree on policy, I always appreciate his willingness to work together to seek common ground, to making this branch of government work, and to achieving principled, bipartisan compromise. I look forward to working with Representative Blunt in the new Congress.
"Congressman Blunt earned our respect with his civility and constructive contributions to the work of this House. I sincerely hope that his successors in the Republican leadership will follow his example."
