Capito Announces $74,232 Grant for Weston Volunteer Fire Department

Rep. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) today announced that the Weston Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded $74,232 by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The funds come as an Assistance to Firefighters Grant.

"At a time when many local governments are facing financial challenges, this federal support is vital and I'm pleased to see that Weston will receive this funding," said Capito.

This grant will support the purchase of a vehicle exhaust removal system to improve air quality in the fire station and protect firefighters during emergency response.

"These much-needed grant funds will assist the Weston VFD in purchasing the equipment it needs to not only ensure the safety of the fire fighters, but will also allow the VFD to provide the best emergency services that it can to the area," wrote Capito in a letter to homeland security officials on behalf of the Weston Volunteer Fire Department.

Grants awarded through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program seek to help enhance the preparedness capabilities of local fire departments and emergency medical service (EMS) organizations. Funding often supports equipment upgrades and training for first responders.
