Murphy Statement on Waterbury's Heart Center Remaining Open

Contact: Kristen Bossi

Congressman Chris Murphy (CT-5) released the following statement on the state Office of Health Care Access granting Waterbury and St. Mary's hospitals a six month extension to operate their Heart Center.

"I am pleased that the Office of Health Care Access granted St. Mary's and Waterbury hospitals a six month extension to operate their Heart Center. The Heart Center of Greater Waterbury fills a need. Quality has been ensured. Lives have been saved. The state had only one choice today - to continue access to this life saving program for the patients of greater Waterbury. I look forward to continuing to work with the state and the city of Waterbury to authorize the program's permanent establishment."

Murphy currently represents Waterbury, and many other towns and communities that rely on the Heart Center as their means to quality and life-saving health care, in the U.S. House of Representatives. Four years ago, when the Heart Center of Greater Waterbury was created, Murphy was the Chair of the State Legislature's Public Health Committee.
