Chris Murphy Statement on Seventh Anniversary of 9/11

On the seventh anniversary of September 11, 2001, Congressman Chris Murphy (CT-5) released the following statement:

"September 11th was a day that changed our country forever. We will never forget the thousands of people who died that day or the thousands of others who were injured, including our brave first responders, scarring families and communities across the nation.

"During that time, we, as a nation, drew upon our sense of duty and shared patriotism to move forward, begin to heal, and protect our nation from those that want to harm us. But seven years later, we still haven't completed that journey.

"As we all know, the collapse of the World Trade Center towers released a dangerous cocktail of toxins, putting hundreds of area workers, residents, rescue and recovery workers, and others in the area around Ground Zero at risk. Many of those exposed have become sick as a result, and with staggering medical bills and the inability to work due to illness, they are now in severe financial distress. The federal government has a moral obligation to provide the heroes of 9/11 with the care they desperately need and deserve."
