DeLauro Statement on Expected Army Announcement on the Army Reserve Center

Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) issued the following statement regarding the expected announcement from the Department of the Army on Monday 10 November 2008 regarding the possible locations for the Army Reserve Center. In September the Army Corps of Engineers announced the four sites that it had determined as the most suitable for continued consideration in the siting process.

"It is my understanding, from conversations my staff has had with the Army, that on Monday the Corps will announce the sites still in consideration as possible locations for the Army Reserve Center.

"As the site selection process moves forward, these sites will undergo environmental analysis under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and no final selection will be made until the NEPA process has been completed. Monday's announcement will be made in conjunction with a visit from Corps of Engineers Colonel Keith Landry, who will also discuss with community officials the site selection process and environmental assessments going forward.

"In light of these discussions and last month's response to the inquiry I made with Senators Dodd and Lieberman, it appears that the Boardman Lane site will remain on this list. I will continue to make clear to those reviewing these sites that Boardman Lane is not a suitable location for the Center and fight on behalf of my constituents for its removal from consideration. Additionally, I will work with town officials, the community and the Army to ensure that the other sites identified are given serious consideration and that there is a fair and transparent process for reviewing these sites."
