DeLauro Statement on Supreme Court Refusal to hear Islander East Case

Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) issued the following statement following the announcement that the U.S. Supreme Court would not hear an appeal filed by the Islander East Company, LLC in its effort to construct a natural gas pipeline across Long Island Sound.

"Today is a win for the shoreline communities and residents concerned with the impact of the Islander East pipeline on the health and vitality of Long Island Sound. The Supreme Court's refusal to hear this case means the end of this project. There is no court remaining for Islander East to appeal to; there is no further options left for Islander East to review. It is now time to respect the opinion of Connecticut's regulatory authorities, communities and elected officials and allow this Supreme Court decision to be the project's farewell appearance.

"The success today, would have been more challenging with out the dedication and work of the Connecticut Stop the Pipeline. It is because of their efforts working in tandem with the affected communities and elected officials that we have halted this project. With this success we have prevented the irreversible negative impacts to the Thimble Islands, water quality, shellfish habitat, water dependant use, and tidal wetlands caused by the drilling and trenching activities associated with the proposed pipeline.

"Today, we can claim victory for ending this misguided and harmful proposal."
