Foster listens as consumers talk about fuel prices

- Despite the pain of high gas prices, Lorelli Deml said she is
grateful that costs are forcing consumers to be conscientious and
resourceful.

"We wanted to voice the positive things that could
come out of this," Deml, 27, said Monday as she stood beside her
husband, Jeremy. "But in the short term, it does hurt."

The two were among about 10 people who stopped at the DeKalb Oasis Travel Plaza on Interstate 88 on Monday to chat with U.S. Rep. Bill Foster,
D-Geneva, about the rising cost of fuel. Foster was there to listen and
take statements from motorists on their thoughts on gas prices.

Some of the statements will be entered into the Congressional record, Foster
said, which is the official record of the proceedings and debates of
the U.S. Congress and is issued daily when Congress is in session.

"One reason for doing this, quite frankly, is to put a little pressure on
Congress to do something about a sensible, compromise energy bill," he
said, seated at a table in the oasis. Monday's visit was the only oasis
stop he plans to make before going back in to session next week, he
said.
