Moran Supports Military Children's School Investment Act

Congressman Jerry Moran today announced his sponsorship of H.R. 6293, the Military Children's School Investment Act, to amend the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965. The legislation would establish a discretionary grant program through the Department of Education for construction, modernization, and repair of public kindergarten, elementary and secondary education facilities affected by Department of Defense (DoD) restructuring activities.

"Now more than ever, we need to support military families as more service men and women are affected by DoD restructuring." Moran said. "This bill helps fund construction and expansion of school districts affected by military restructuring to benefit military students and children of civilian employees. This is especially beneficial for school districts near military bases, such as Geary County, to be eligible to receive funds."

Restructuring activities that include Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC), Global Rebasing and Army Modularization, will affect thousands of military students and children of civilian employees who attend aid impacted school districts. The grant program will assist local school districts that do not receive tax incentives for these students who are from restructured DoD schools.
