Walberg Votes to Help Michigan Automakers Retool

Says Legislation Will Lift Offshore Drilling Ban, Allow Michigan Automakers to Build New Generation of Fuel-Efficient Automobiles

U.S. Congressman Tim Walberg (R-MI) today issued the following statement after supporting a continuing resolution - appropriations legislation - that included $25 billion in low-interest loans to be used as necessary by automobile manufacturers to retool older factories to meet new government mandates. Along with supporting Michigan's automakers, Walberg, along with other pro-energy members of Congress, successfully stripped language from earlier drafts of the bill that would have extended a ban on offshore oil drilling. The current ban on offshore drilling will expire October 1.

"Today's bill is a victory for Michigan and for the American economy. This legislation will allow a new generation of innovative, fuel-efficient automobiles to be made in Michigan and brings an end to outdated bans on offshore drilling."
