Rep. Foster Announces Research Grant for NIU Student

HUD Award to be Used for Examining Affordable Suburban Housing

Today, Rep. Bill Foster announced the Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded Adrienne M. Holloway, an NIU doctoral student, a research grant for $14,721.

"I am happy to congratulate Northern Illinois University and Adrienne M. Holloway for their outstanding research efforts to learn more about affordable housing," Rep. Foster said. "This grant will further that understanding."

Holloway's research will study how municipalities address, support, and develop affordable housing in the Chicago suburbs.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded Holloway the Early Doctoral Student Research Grant (EDSRG) for $14,721. The EDSRG program enables doctoral students enrolled at accredited institutions of higher education to cultivate their research skills through the preparation of research manuscripts that focus on policy-relevant housing and urban development issues.

"I feel blessed to have the opportunity to add to HUD-sponsored housing scholarship. It is my hope that my research will provide housing practitioners with analyses they can use to develop informed policy to address their respective affordable housing concerns," Holloway said.

"Especially in these times when families and small business struggle with the economy, we need to understand the best way to use our affordable housing resources," Rep. Foster said. "This research could not be more relevant to the challenges we face right now."
