Durbin Statement on Amtrak CEO Resignation

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) today released the following statement after learning that Alex Kummant will be stepping down from his position as President and CEO of Amtrak.

"Alex Kummant has been a great advocate of expanding and improving passenger rail in Illinois. In his two years as President and CEO, Amtrak ridership nationwide has increased dramatically - hitting record numbers on several routes in our state.

"Mr. Kummant has been a steadfast ally in our efforts to put more trains in service and establish new routes in Illinois and he deserves our thanks.

"I look forward to working closely with Amtrak leadership, including Board member and former Macomb Mayor Tom Carper, to continue capitalizing on this growing enthusiasm for passenger rail."
