Congresswoman Richardson Joins the Congressional Asian & Pacific Islander Caucus

Congresswoman Laura Richardson has been accepted as a member of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC).
"Joining CAPAC is another example of my commitment to the Asian/Pacific Islander American community," said Congresswoman Richardson. "I have fought to protect Asian & Pacific Islander Americans from discrimination with my introduction of the Equal Rights for Health Care Act.' This legislation prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, race, color, national origin, sexual orientation, or disability status against any U.S. citizen under any health care service receiving federal financial assistance."
"Further, I was proud to speak forcefully on the floor of the House of Representatives on September 23, 2008, in support of Filipino veterans. Over 470,000 Filipino soldiers, answered the call to service during WWII, in full support of our troops, fought alongside American soldiers. 60,000 Filipino soldiers were forced to march 65 miles without food, water, and medicine, while being bayoneted, and killed," Congresswoman Richardson pointed out. "They are 1st class heroes whose service comes second to no other. For that reason, the work performed by these veterans must be officially acknowledged, paid and cared for. These soldiers deserve to receive GI benefits and recognition, just as all other American soldiers do. "The 37th Congressional District is home to over 87,000, or over 13.3% Asian/Pacific Islanders Americans. The District also has the largest population of Cambodians in the United States. I want to make sure these communities are heard and advocated on behalf for what they deserve."
Congresswoman Richardson is a member of several Caucuses, including the Congressional Caucus on Women's Issues, Congressional Labor & Working Families Caucus, Congressional High Technology Caucus, Congressional Urban Caucus, Congressional Coastal Caucus, Congressional Port Security Caucus, the New Democrat Coalition, and the Democratic Budget Group.
