Congressman McCaul Helps Open Katy Tollway

Press Release

Date: Oct. 29, 2008
Location: Houston, TX
Issues: Transportation

Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX 10) helped cut the ribbon on one of the greatest traffic relievers in western Harris County in two decades, with the opening of the I-10 Katy Tollway. The 12-mile stretch begins at the eastern edge of the 10th Congressional District at Highway 6 and extends to the I-10/Loop 610 West interchange giving drivers the option to pay a fee to bypass morning and evening rush hour traffic.

"Anyone who's ever driven the Katy Freeway at rush hour knows how welcome this project is," said Rep. McCaul. "My hope is that we can go back to work in Congress and secure funding to build a similar project along U.S. 290 going into Cypress to ease congestion there."

Transportation continues to be one of the top concerns facing residents of Katy, Cypress, Tomball and other growing west Harris County communities. The Katy Tollway is the first toll road to open within the existing lanes of a major freeway in Houston, replacing existing HOV lanes. Congressman McCaul believes the road will become a popular option for Katy commuters and will be looked at as a viable solution for Cypress.
