Candidate brings his campaign into Centennial Circle

With 73,000 miles on his regular vehicle, Republican congressional candidate Alexander "Sandy" Treadwell has switched to a Winnebago for the final stretch of the campaign.

The recreational vehicle has enough space to bring the whole family along, including Treadwell's grandchildren and two Weimaraner dogs, Monkey and Wilson.

"I'm all about grass-roots politics. That's the way it began 23 months ago," Treadwell said at a campaign stop Sunday evening at the Centennial Circle roundabout in Glens Falls.

Treadwell, who is attempting to unseat U.S. Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-Greenport, on Tuesday, wraps up a 72-hour tour of the 20th Congressional District in his hometown of Lake Placid this evening.

After a few hours of sleep, he plans to make one final Election Day sweep through the 10 counties, after voting Tuesday morning in Lake Placid, his staff said.

A few dozen sign-toting supporters showed up at the roundabout on Sunday evening to greet Treadwell, who campaigned along with Glens Falls Republican mayoral candidate Harold "Bud" Taylor and state Sen. Elizabeth Little, R-Queensbury.

Little is running unopposed on Tuesday.

"Thank you all for being here. I'm so grateful," Treadwell told the group. "On to victory!"

Gillibrand, in a telephone interview on Sunday, said the main issues, such as jobs and middle-class tax cuts, have not changed since the campaign started.

"It's a lot about the economy. People are worried about job loss. They're worried about paying bills," said Gillibrand, who was campaigning in Columbia County on Sunday.

"We've been doing lots of door-to-door and some diner stuff," she said.

Both candidates are scheduled to be in the area today.

Gillibrand will campaign at noon at the Country View Diner in Brunswick, and at 2 p.m. outside the SCA Tissue mill in South Glens Falls.

Treadwell will campaign at 8 a.m. at Poopie's Diner on Lawrence Street in Glens Falls, at 8:30 a.m. at Sam's Diner on Dix Avenue in Glens Falls and from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. at Midtown Apartments in South Glens Falls.
