Congressman Rahm Emanuel and Gary Peters Speak with Local Business Leaders about Michigan Economy

With just five days until the election, Congressional candidate Gary Peters and Congressman Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill), Chair of the U.S. House Democratic Caucus, met with local business leaders today to discuss the challenges facing small business owners in Michigan's economy.

"As a businessman and former investment advisor, I know first-hand what is necessary for a small business to grow and thrive," said Gary Peters. "In the Michigan Senate I had a strong record of fighting for small business, and I will continue to support small business owners in Congress. I look forward to working with Rep. Emanuel next year to cut taxes for small businesses, lower their health care costs and provide incentives for them to invest in new equipment and to hire new employees. Small businesses are the engine that drives our economy and we must help them thrive."

Peters, who spent more than twenty-two years as a Vice President at both Merrill Lynch and UBS/PaineWebber, has focused his campaign for Congress on reinvesting in Michigan's economy and creating jobs.

Congressman Emanuel is the Chair of the House Democratic Caucus and one of the architects of the 2006 Democratic takeover of Congress. He last visited Oakland County to support Gary Peters on Super Tuesday in February.

The roundtable took place at the Farmington Hills headquarters of Weight Watchers Group. Business owners/leaders attending today's roundtable included: Florine Mark, President of Weight Watchers Group, Inc.; Denise Illitch, Owner, Ambassador Magazine, and candidate for U of M Board of Regents; Karen Hrit, Co-owner of Premier Travel; Allan Gilmour, Director, DTE Energy Company and former Ford Motor Company Vice Chairman; and Sue Marks, President of Sue Marks Films.
