I Wanted You to Be the First to Know

Press Release

Date: Oct. 14, 2008
Location: Washington, DC

Getting sick shouldn't mean going broke. Yet, every 30 seconds someone in America goes bankrupt due to the cumbersome cost of medical bills. Our families deserve better.

The other night, at the presidential debate, the question was posed - is health care a right, a luxury or a responsibility? To me, the answer is clear. Quality healthcare is not a luxury - it's a necessity and a right. No one should ever have to choose between paying for prescription drugs and stocking their pantry.

In Congress, I'm fighting so everyone has access to the care and medicine they deserve. I'm working hard to cut costs and give more rights to consumers and patients. I'm making sure more of New Jersey's kids have affordable healthcare, as well as making sure insurance companies can no longer discriminate against those who suffer from mental illnesses

But there is still a lot of work to be done to ensure that everyone has access to health care, quality doctors and affordable prescription drugs. And we need your help.

That's why I wanted you to be the first to know about a new website we are launching at PalloneForNewJersey.com/Health.

Here, you can learn more about how, together, we can create healthier lives for all Americans. There are links to programs and tips that offer lower cost prescription drugs and other cost savings, as well as some information about what I've been doing to make quality health care more affordable. I hope that this website has real value for you in these hard times.

And if you have an idea regarding healthcare, health policies or ways to make prescription drugs more affordable and accessible, I hope you'll share your ideas and stories with us.

Today, we also are starting a television commercial focusing on these issues and to launch the new site. But I wanted to make sure that the netroots community would be the among the first to view the commercial, as I know I can count on your support in my efforts.

Nothing is more important than the health and well-being of our families. I've made that my mission. I hope you'll visit our new website and that you'll help us spread the word in the days and months ahead.
