Hoeven Statement On Bobcat's Temporary Suspension Of Production

Gov. John Hoeven today issued the following statement in response to Bobcat's announced temporary suspension of production at the company's two North Dakota facilities:

"I spoke this morning with Bobcat President Rich Goldsbury, who informed me that the company will temporarily suspend production for six weeks at its facilities in Gwinner and Bismarck. He indicated that difficulty in the financial markets and a slowdown in the housing market is resulting in reduced demand for construction equipment. He said the temporary suspension is necessary to reduce a backlog of inventory, and is in line with what other industrial equipment manufacturers have done or plan to do.

"We want to help with any assistance workers and their families might need. I have asked Job Service North Dakota Director Maren Daley to work closely with company officials and Job Service staff to assist workers on site in filing for unemployment benefits claims for the six-week period. For convenience and efficiency, employees will be able to apply for and certify their claims via the Internet."
