CYNTHIA LUMMIS' STATEMENT ON HER ENDORSEMENT FROM THE NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION
"I am proud to receive the endorsement from the NRA recognizing my commitment to protecting our Second Amendment right to own and bear arms. I have a long and documented history of voting for and supporting gun rights.
"I will actively fight and vote against any legislation that proposes gun registration. My Democrat opponent Gary Trauner, however, has stated that he believes the government, having access to purchase records is a common sense approach to balancing gun owner's rights vs. national security needs." (NRA Questionnaire released by Trauner Campaign, 9/25/06). "I do not believe gun owners should be singled out and placed on a federal government list. Ever."
"I also disagree with Mr. Trauner's view on placing restrictions on gun ownership. He has stated that while it's important that we preserve our rights he also believes we need laws to ensure the health and safety of ourselves and others around us and he will, "support appropriate and reasonable safety regulations "(traunerforcongress.com 2006 web site).
"Mr. Trauner has told the NRA and Wyoming voters in his 2008 campaign that he supports and will protect the second amendment. He has changed what he says publicly from his 2006 campaign. We already get enough of that kind of "straight talk" from Washington, D.C.
