Issue Position: Veterans

Issue Position

We owe our veterans an enormous debt of gratitude. Nebraska is home to more than 154,000 veterans from conflicts ranging from World War II to Korea to Vietnam to the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

These men and women face difficult challenges, and our society must live up to our promises to our brave service members.

That is why I formed the Congressional Rural Veterans Caucus. The Caucus focuses on issues facing veterans in rural areas, explores opportunities to enhance access to health care for veterans, and provides a forum for the exchange and discussion of ideas on how best to improve services for veterans in rural areas.

Veterans in geographically remote areas find it increasingly difficult to access necessary and vital care. Due to the distances veterans must travel to seek care, along with long wait times, many patients delay or simply choose not to obtain the care they need.

Veterans living in rural areas deserve equal access to the care offered to those living in urban areas. The Rural Veterans Caucus gives a voice to those veterans without immediate access to urban medical facilities.

I'm proud to represent many of these brave men and women, and I will continue to work to make sure they receive the assistance they deserve.
