Congressman Dave Reichert (WA-08) made the following statement today after the announcement that Department of Defense (DoD) Secretary Robert Gates is cancelling the Pentagon's current request for bids for the KC-X tanker:
"The signs have been clear that this process was flawed from the beginning. I'm pleased to hear the news today that will allow Boeing to be given a fair opportunity to bid on the tanker contract. With adequate time the Air Force can decide what exactly they are looking for, and can communicate that to Boeing, so they can get a fair shake in this contract with a full understanding of what's expected to build the next fleet of tankers. With a level playing field and clear direction from DoD, I believe the workers at Boeing will build this country's new KC-X tankers."
