President Ronald Reagan, 1911-2004

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) released the following statement today in reference to the passing of former President Ronald Reagan:

"America lost one of its leaders, and Southern California lost one of its favorite sons.

"President Ronald Reagan epitomized what all citizens believe is possible, that a poor boy from a rural town could use his talents and work hard to become a star of the silver screen and the leader of the free world. As a result, he strove his entire life to bring the California dream to America, and the American dream to the world.

"President Reagan saw an America of shining cities and small-town communities where families could raise their children in prosperity and security. His vision for a world without the threat of Soviet repression was daring for its clarity and resolve. He believed that the Cold War could be won, and through his extraordinary powers of persuasion harnessed the willingness of all free people to follow his leadership. And through all the difficult decisions he made as Governor and President, he was always generous in manner and affable in spirit.

"We join together as Americans in sending our condolences to Mrs. Reagan and her family."

Congressman Schiff is the co-founder of the Democratic Study Group on National Security and a member of both the House Judiciary and International Relations committees.
