Zeldin Defeats Bishop in Contentious News 12 Debate
Zeldin blasts incumbent for reckless, irresponsible voting record
After a fiery exchange of ideas at Cablevision's News 12 Debate today, Lee Zeldin, the Republican and Conservative Party Candidate, left the studio clearly as today's winner.
"Over the course of the last year, I have made the charge that we need to return to our real Long Island values. Today, after 12 long months, the people will get to finally see firsthand some of the differences between myself and my opponent," said Zeldin.
Zeldin slammed Bishop's support of the 700 Billion Dollar taxpayer funded bailout of Wall Street that his opponent supported, saying after the debate, "The 700 billion dollar taxpayer funded Wall Street Bailout represents everything wrong with Tim Bishop and Washington."
Zeldin voiced residents' outrage over Bishop's recent votes against funding for necessary ammunition, supplies and equipment for our troops deployed overseas. "When someone raises their hand and volunteers to serve, is handed a weapon, a uniform, and sent overseas, they better not find out once they get over there that their congressman back home is voting against the ammunition in their weapon.
"We just can't afford Tim Bishop anymore...it would be my privilege to bring our real Long Island Values to Washington," concluded Zeldin. Zeldin and Bishop will be facing off again tonight at the League of Women Voters debate in Southampton.
