DeLauro Announces $637,400 Trade Adjustment Assistance Grant to Help former Quebecor Workers

New Haven, CT - Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) announced that the Connecticut Department of Labor will receive a $637,400 federal National Emergency Grant to assist workers dislocated from the closure of Quebecor World Northeast Graphics in North Haven, CT. In May, 2008, DeLauro joined with Senators Chris Dodd and Joe Lieberman in sending a letter to U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine Cho in support of Trade Adjustment assistance. Additionally, when there were delays with the funding, DeLauro successfully pressed the U.S. Department of Labor to release the funding that was allocated.

Because of this grant, workers will have access to a wide array of services aimed at helping them find suitable jobs as quickly as possible. This could include income support, relocation allowances, job search allowances and a health coverage tax credit. TAA participants that need retraining for a new job may receive occupational training.

"I am pleased that we secured access to Trade Adjustment Assistance," said DeLauro. "The closure of Quebecor that resulted in the lay-off of nearly 350 workers was a blow to the town of North Haven and the families of those who worked there. Through Trade Adjustment Assistance, these workers will have access to valuable training and benefits that will ensure they remain competitive in their job search and facilitate their transition into new jobs."
