Sen. Cornyn Highlights Importance Of Investing In Clean Alternative Energy Resources

Also discusses need for comprehensive energy plan that boosts domestic oil and natural gas production

At the Clean Carbon Policy Summit & Project Expo hosted by the Clean Coal Technology Foundation of Texas, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, today discussed the importance of investing in clean alternative energy resources. Delivering the keynote address to attendees, Sen. Cornyn said Texas has the resources to be a national leader in clean coal and carbon technologies, as well as coal-to-liquids. Sen. Cornyn also provided an update on his efforts to achieve future energy security through increased domestic energy production.

"By expanding American oil, gas and coal production, we can take a bigger stake in our own future. These traditional carbon-based fuels are the necessary bridge between our current economy and a future that utilizes a wide range of renewable and alternative energy sources in addition to traditional energy sources in clean and environmentally friendly ways.

"With the continued work of organizations like the Clean Coal Technology Foundation of Texas, we can help bring clean coal energy online in Texas and across the country. And as our nation continues to move ahead on the path of clean carbon, I will work diligently in the Senate to find new ways to advance and promote this invaluable energy source. I know that we can make widespread clean coal energy a reality here in Texas, and across the country.

"Furthermore, Congress must pass a comprehensive, sensible energy plan that boosts energy production here at home. Removing the moratoria on oil and natural gas exploration for much of the Outer Continental Shelf and shale oil deposits in Western states was an important step forward but there is still more work to be done. We have the potential to make a positive impact on energy prices, as well as reduce our dependence on foreign oil. I will continue pressing for solutions that can accomplish just that," Sen. Cornyn said.
