Announces Homeless Veterans Grant for Dignity's Alcove in Stockton

Today, Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-11) announced that Stockton's Dignity's Alcove will receive a $377,000 grant from the Department of Veterans Affairs. The money will go towards building renovations, a new van and the creation of 20 new beds at the facility.

"This is great news. We have an obligation to all the men and women who served in our military. I'm pleased that Dignity's Alcove will be able to better serve local veterans who need assistance and help them return to productive lives," Rep. McNerney said.

Dignity's Alcove provides transitional housing for local homeless veterans as well as money management, drug and alcohol counseling and other classes to help veterans get back on their feet. The organization also provides emergency services such as meals and showers.

The VA has identified public and community non-profit groups eligible to receive payments for housing and supportive services to homeless veterans, including 49 grants for vans that will transport homeless veterans to health care and training programs.
