Today, David Schweikert, the former Maricopa County Treasurer running for Congress in Arizona's Fifth Congressional District, says Americans are serious about using home-grown resources for energy.
That is why I have called for increased domestic and offshore exploration, drilling in ANWR, more refinery capacity and investing in alternative sources of energy including solar, wind and biofuels," Schweikert said following the morning's press conference.
Schweikert punctuated his policy outside a south Scottsdale gas station.
"Congress should have tackled this crisis six weeks ago, but chose vacation instead. Yet, how many American families did not enjoy a summer vacation because gas prices were too expensive?" Schweikert said.
Campaign Spokeswoman Lauren C. Barnett said, "Unfortunately, the current attempt by Congress to pass energy legislation is half-hearted. Harry Mitchell and the Democrats in Congress are pulling a fast one on the American people. The simple fact is, Harry Mitchell has repeatedly voted against domestic drilling and against comprehensive energy legislation."
Schweikert concluded, "I implore Harry Mitchell and Speaker Pelosi to let America use our domestic resources. In Congress, I will support a comprehensive energy policy and not allow liberal special interests to stand in the way of moving towards energy independence."
