Cornyn Praises Passage Of Bipartisan Bill To Combat Child Pornography Crimes

Bill will increase resources available to law enforcement and prosecutors

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, today praised Senate passage of the Combating Child Exploitation Act, S. 1738, a bipartisan bill that will greatly increase the resources available to local law enforcement and prosecutors working to combat online child pornography crimes.

"With the rapid growth of the Internet, and particularly the increasing use by young people, it is important now more than ever that we do everything we can to protect our children from online pornographers and predators," Sen. Cornyn said. "These predators view the Internet as a useful avenue into the lives of our children, and it is critical that we give law enforcement and prosecutors all of the resources necessary to stop those who commit these despicable crimes against our young people."

Sen. Cornyn is a co-sponsor of the bill, which has strong support from child welfare and anti-crime activists, including the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and talk show hosts John Walsh of America's Most Wanted and Oprah Winfrey, who have both been avid and outspoken supporters of this legislation.
