It's Time for Congress to Listen to America

Statement

Yesterday, the House of Representatives defeated an economic bailout and took a stand for taxpayers and free markets. Nebraskans contacting my office were opposed to this plan by a nearly 10-1 ratio. They feel, as I do, if companies are not allowed to fail, they will not be allowed to succeed.

Now, Congress must work together to pass meaningful, reasonable legislation which deals with the crisis facing our financial markets without saddling America's next generation with billions and billions of new debt. Personal responsibility and fiscal discipline should be our marching orders — not raising the debt ceiling or asking taxpayers to foot the bill for corporate bailouts.

I believe we can find a bipartisan solution in the coming days which satisfy these demands and is in the best interest of the American people and our economic freedom.
