Buchanan Again Votes to Override Bush Veto

For the fourth time in seven months, U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan has voted to override a veto issued by President Bush, who campaigned for Buchanan in Sarasota in 2006.

Buchanan, a Longboat Key Republican, last week joined 99 other Republicans and 216 Democrats to override Bush's veto of the $290 billion farm bill.

In his veto message, Bush said the bill was too expensive. But Buchanan defended the bill for its increased investment in specialty crops grown in Florida.

"It includes important investments in citrus, strawberries, tomatoes and other home-grown products," Buchanan said.

Here are the other vetoes Buchanan has voted to override:

Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2007, Dec. 12, 2007. Override failed.

Water Resources Development Act of 2007 — Nov. 2, 2007. Override succeeded.

Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2007 — Oct. 3, 2007. Override failed.
