Rep. Courtney, House Pass Critical Energy Market Speculation Legislation to Protect Consumers

For nearly two years Congressman Joe Courtney has called for greater oversight of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to protect Connecticut's working families and small businesses from unscrupulous traders who artificially inflate the price of oil.

Today, Congressman Courtney joined his colleagues in the House of Representatives in passing, H.R. 6604, the Commodity Markets Transparency and Accountability Act, which will once again bring stability to oil trading.

"Families are struggling to make ends meet in this troubled economy and are being taken advantage of in the get-rich-quick energy markets," stated Courtney. "Connecticut's families and homeowners need help now and my vote in favor of this legislation does that. I urge the Senate and the President to move as quickly as possible to turn this bill into law, so working families will have some relief."
