NBC - "Titus unveils plan to create more jobs in Nevada"

A day before the U.S. Department of Labor is due to release the latest unemployment numbers, Third Congressional District candidate Dina Titus unveiled her plan to create more jobs in Southern Nevada.

Speaking at Nevada State College on Thursday, Titus said the local economy has been hit hard by the economic downturn and believes it's time to move in a new direction.

"We need to diversify the economy and invest in the resources that we have in Nevada," Titus explained. "We have the wind, we have the sun, we have the geothermal. We should develop it, and by developing it we will create new, good paying jobs."

Renewable energy is a major part of Titus's plan, which includes three proposed initiatives: creating new jobs in solar and wind energy for Southern Nevada's construction industry, revamping training programs to give the workforce marketable skills in a modern economy, and promoting more university research in technology and energy-related fields.

The ideas put forward in the job-creation plan echo Titus's comprehensive energy plan. Announced back in July at a campaign stop in Henderson, part of that plan also calls for establishing Nevada as a leader in clean and renewable energy.

Dina Titus will face incumbent Jon Porter (R-NV) in the November election.
