Statement
The Democrat in the race for Idaho's U.S. Senate seat tells us that "Idaho families are hurting" in his television advertising. He's got that part right. However, he apparently doesn't understand the reason we are hurting, because he supports more government programs and higher taxes.
The Republican candidate really isn't much better. He calls himself "The Taxpayer's Friend," when in reality, the huge property tax cut he has been touting all over the state during the campaign was nothing more than a tax shift that reduced taxes on property to sales tax that was increased 20%. He doesn't get it, either. Those who own property got a tax cut, but the sales tax increase took it back Those who rent didn't. Their rent didn't go down, but their sales taxes went up so they got a tax increase from the "Taxpayer's Friend." In order to cut taxes, you've got to cut government spending and that wasn't part of his program when he called the special session of the Legislature during his seven months as our unelected governor.
Two candidates have personally loaned their campaigns hundreds of thousands of dollars the Republican has put in $480,000 of his own money, and one of the Independent candidates, $390,000. Do we really want to elect someone who is so much better off financially than the average Idahoan he says he wants to represent? Should we elect any candidate who is trying to "buy" the office?
Don't you really want your next U.S. Senator to represent Idaho and
Idahoans? The Democrat candidate has raised 74% (three-quarters) of his $785,775 from out-of-state, and the Republican candidate has raised 49% (almost half) of his $1,899,747 from contributors outside Idaho.

You'll find the names of the contributor organizations very interesting, because the information shows who they would really be representing if elected.
