EIGHT LOCAL STUDENTS BEGIN MILITARY CAREERS AT NATIONAL ACADEMIES

Today, Congressman Tim Walz praised eight local young adults who recently began their careers in public service at the national Armed Services Academies. All eight residents of Minnesota's 1st Congressional District were nominated to attend the respective academies by Congressman Tim Walz as part of the Congressman's academy nomination duties.

"I'm proud to see eight of our best and brightest students join the Armed Services and start their careers by attending these distinguished institutions of higher learning," said Rep. Tim Walz, who is a retired Army National Guard Command Sgt. Major. "Their service to our country will not only be a source of pride for our communities; it will be a character-shaping experience for these young men and women. I wish them all the best as they learn and grow in the Naval, Military and Air Force Academies."

High school students interested in applying for admission to the United States Military Academy, United States Naval Academy, United States Air Force Academy and/or the United States Merchant Marine Academy should contact John Pierce in Congressman Walz's Rochester office at 507-206-0643. Applications are due no later than October 31, 2008.
