Announces $5,269,296 for Michigan Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program

U.S. Congressman Tim Walberg (R-MI) today made the following statement after the Department of Health and Human Services announced Michigan will receive $5,269,296 from the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) contingency fund.

Walberg sent a letter to the President earlier this month requesting that the federal government give Michigan its share of LIHEAP contingency funding to help low income households cope with the anticipated high costs for fuel this winter. "Michigan taxpayers have contributed their hard-earned dollars to this program that aids low-income families, disabled individuals and senior citizens living on fixed incomes, so I am pleased our state will receive our rightful share of LIHEAP program funding," Walberg said. "These funds will allow Michigan to provide vital energy assistance to those who need it."
