Congresswoman Laura Richardson voted to support H.R. 6532, a bill designed to transfer $8 billion from the general treasury to the Highway Trust Fund.
"With the decline in gas consumption due to high gas prices," Congresswoman Laura Richardson said, "the Highway Trust Fund faced the danger of being completely depleted in the next couple weeks. With many repairs and construction projects still unfinished, the restoration of this fund is critical to the safety of Americans everywhere and will provide an essential tool in helping to spur the economy by creating more construction jobs."
H.R 6532 passed the House on September 11, 2008, with overwhelming bipartisan support by a vote of 376 to 29, and despite earlier veto threats, President Bush has acknowledged the necessity of replenishing the Highway Trust Fund and is expected to sign the bill into law.
