Sen. Cornyn: White House Emergency Declaration Will Help Ensure Faster Federal Relief for Texans Impacted by Ike
Urges Texans to Heed Warnings and Err on Side of Safety
U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, today issued the following statement in favor of the White House's emergency declaration for the State of Texas in advance of Hurricane Ike:
"Unfortunately, all credible projections indicate Hurricane Ike is Texas-bound. The decision by the White House to declare a state of emergency for Texas in advance of this dangerous and accelerating hurricane is welcome news. It clears an important bureaucratic hurdle that will allow faster and more efficient delivery of federal relief to Texans who are impacted by the hurricane," Sen. Cornyn said. "I urge all Texans who are at risk of being impacted by Hurricane Ike to take this dangerous storm seriously, heed federal warnings and act now to protect themselves and their families. I continue to stay in close contact with FEMA officials, Governor Perry and local leaders, and will do everything I can to ensure preparations and response efforts are as seamless as possible."
