Schakowsky Sends Letter to President Urging Him to Maintain All White House Records

Press Release

Date: Aug. 1, 2008
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) led fifteen of her Democratic colleagues in sending a letter to President Bush strongly urging him to maintain all White House records that could have administrative, historical, or evidentiary value. The letter asks the President to comply with the Presidential Records Act (PRA) which requires the President to adequately document, maintain and preserve White House records. There is clear evidence that the Bush Administration has already undermined the PRA by destroying emails.
