"Every time the federal government borrows money to pay its bills, interest accumulates. This interest must be paid off every year, setting up a structural tax increase or "debt tax," that must be paid by all future generations and can never be repealed."
-Congressman Sanford Bishop
A member of the Blue Dog Coalition, a group of conservative to moderate Democratic Members of Congress, Congressman Bishop has been a relentless advocate of a balanced budget, arguing against the continual, reckless borrowing of funds from countries such as China, Japan and Mexico. He has consistently backed amendments that would amend the U.S. Constitution to require a balanced budget and has worked with the Blue Dog Coalition to introduce alternative, fiscally sound budgets and practices. Recently to remind his colleagues of the ever mounting national debt, Congressman Bishop has placed a "national debt clock" outside of his Washington, D.C. office. Currently every American's share of the national debt stands at $31,000 and counting.
