Issue Position

Congresswoman Sánchez has made improving the quality of life for America's seniors one of her top priorities. She wants seniors to be able to enjoy the golden years of life, rather than living in fear of poverty.

* Fighting For Government Negotiated Prescription Drug Prices - Congresswoman Sánchez is fighting to repeal and make changes to the "Medicare Prescription Drug Act" to ensure seniors have access to quality and affordable healthcare. That's why she is a sponsor of the "Medicare's Equitable Drugs for Seniors Act," (H.R. 376) which would authorize the Secretary of Health and Human Services to negotiate fair prices for Medicare prescription drugs for Medicare beneficiaries.

* Congresswoman Sánchez continues to press for the implementation of the "Pharmaceutical Market Access Act," (H.R. 328) which would allow Americans to save money by purchasing prescription drugs from developed countries who sell the same drugs for less. Americans pay too much for prescription drugs while foreigners can buy the exact same drugs - often made in the U.S. - at much lower prices.

* Providing Social Security for All Generations - As your representative, Congresswoman Sánchez is fighting to protect Social Security - the most successful government program in our nation's history. Congresswoman Sánchez is committed to fighting plans to privatize Social Security. Social Security should be a guarantee, not a gamble. Diverting billions of dollars from Social Security trust funds to fund Personal Retirement Accounts is risky, so Congresswoman Sánchez is continuing to resist placing Social Security dollars at the mercy of the volatile stock market.

* Protecting Your Pension - Americans who have worked a lifetime to earn a pension should not see that promise broken. Today, far too many corporations are declaring bankruptcy and cutting pensions, while rewarding a few executives at the top. Congresswoman Sánchez believes this is completely unfair. That is why she is a co-sponsor of the "Pension Fairness and Full Disclosure Act," (H.R. 2233), which would establish new protections for the pensions that people have worked their whole lives to earn.

* Ensuring Senior's Benefits Rise Fairly - Congresswoman Sánchez is fighting to ensure that struggling seniors can cope with healthcare costs that are rising much faster than their benefits. When healthcare costs increase, seniors, too often, are left to foot the bill. That's why Congresswoman Sánchez is a sponsor of the "Consumer Price Index for Elderly Consumers Act," (H.R. 3601) which calculates the Social Security Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) fairly, by taking rising healthcare costs into consideration.
