Cornyn Visits Texarkana Fuel Station, Calls For Immediate Action To Bring Down Gas Prices For East Texans

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, today visited the E-Z Mart fuel station in Texarkana to discuss the need for immediate action to increase domestic energy production and bring down prices at the pump for East Texas families and businesses. Throughout the August work period, Sen. Cornyn has been visiting with Texans across the state and said gas prices remain their top concern.

"I've had the opportunity to meet with a variety of Texans this month and have consistently heard they are fed up with high gas and energy prices. My visit today to Texarkana was no different. I share their frustrations, as gas prices in Texas and across the U.S. are still a dollar more per gallon than they were a year ago. The burden is on Congress to pass the necessary energy solutions to bring substantive relief to Texas businesses and families.

"Instead of providing real, common-sense energy solutions, Democrats elected to adjourn for the month while the American people, including millions of Texans, are forced to accept the consequences and pay higher prices at the pump. When we return to Congress in September, I will do my best to hold the majority accountable for their inaction, and get a comprehensive, bipartisan, sensible solution enacted as soon as possible.

"Families in Texarkana and all of Texas deserve better. We have the potential to meet our nation's energy needs with energy produced here at home. I have supported several common-sense measures that would open up oil-rich regions of the United States to energy exploration and production. So I will continue my efforts to pass these measures in order to lower prices at the pump and comprehensively address our energy needs."
