Issue Position

Right now, the people in the middle and those trying to get into the middle are being squeezed by high unemployment, the outsourcing of jobs, low economic growth, and a ballooning federal deficit. They deserve much better."-Jim McGovern

Jim's Vision:

Jim believes that every American should have the opportunity to get a good-paying job that allows them to provide for their family, prepare for the future, and educate their kids. He also believes in Fair Trade, and will oppose trade agreements that fail to protect American workers and the environment. He believes that the ballooning federal budget deficit represents a mammoth, unpaid bill that we are passing on to our children and grandchildren, and that tax cuts should be paid for. Economic development and creating jobs will continue to be one of Jim's top priorities.

Jim's Record:

* Jim is fighting to keep good-paying jobs in Massachusetts, not "outsourced" to other countries. He is a co-sponsor of legislation that would prevent employers from importing cheaper workers from overseas, displacing current workers. Jim recognizes the importance of the new economy, and has fought hard to provide resources to the Worcester-area biotech industry; MetroWest area high-tech companies, and others.

* Jim has fought to deliver transportation funding. As a former member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, and as a current member of the powerful House Rules Committee, Jim McGovern has delivered millions of dollars in transportation and other funding to Central and Southeastern Massachusetts, helping to create good-paying jobs in construction and other industries.

* Jim McGovern believes that manufacturing is an important part of our economy. Congressman McGovern has worked consistently to promote the economic growth and revitalization of Central and Southeastern Massachusetts. He has worked with business leaders, academics and labor leaders from throughout the region to focus on increasing employment opportunities and keeping manufacturing in the region. More specifically, he has focused attention - and resources - on the textile industry in Southeastern Massachusetts and the jewelry industry in the Attleboro area.

* Jim McGovern continues to fight for Worcester Airport. Jim understands how important a viable regional airport is to the economic development of Central Massachusetts. Cong. McGovern has worked tirelessly to improve and expand the public's use of Worcester Regional Airport.
