Ensuring the safety of prescription drugs and medical device safety remain at the top of Rep. Markey's agenda. In 2007, he successfully negotiated stronger standards in both of these areas into law as part of a Food and Drug Administration reform bill. Additionally, Rep. Markey has fought to ensure emergency preparedness, prevent childhood obesity, and improve the FDA approval process.
